John Nurkin

VP, General Counsel & Secretary at SPX

John Nurkin was appointed as Vice President, Secretary and General Counsel of SPX Corporation in 2015. Before assuming this role, he served in a variety of other positions at the company, including General Counsel for SPX’s Industrial Products & Services segment. He also supported the Global Manufacturing Operations and SPX Commercial organizations. John began his career at SPX in 2005 as a group general counsel for the Industrial Segment where he oversaw legal matters for a wide portfolio of businesses and played an integral role in numerous acquisitions and divestitures. Outside of his legal roles, John also served as SPX’s Vice President for New Venture Development and Assistant General Counsel from 2011-2013. In that role, John helped to lead and run the company’s Innovation Council, an enterprise-wide initiative focused on creating a culture of innovation across SPX. Prior to joining SPX, John was a partner at the law firm of Moore & Van Allen, PLLC where he specialized in mergers & acquisitions and corporate finance. He received his J.D. from Duke University School of Law and his B.A. in history and political science from Duke University.
