St Anne’s Community provides a wide range of quality services for people who require support. They work with people who have a learning disability, have mental health problems, have issues around substance use – drugs and/or alcohol – or who are or have been homeless.

Martin is a Chartered Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health and holds an MBA from Warwick Business School.

Martin is the Global Director for Employee Health & Safety and Quality Compliance for Reckitt, a Health, Nutrition and Hygiene Manufacturing organisation. Reckitt sits in the top 15 FTSE All-Share Index Ranking with a global workforce of c.43000. Reckitt’s products (Dettol, Neurofen, Strepsils, Durex, Gaviscon) protect, heal and nurture people and communities everywhere.

Martin plays squash regularly at club level, cycles and has undertaken triathlons. When time allows, he likes to play golf with his wife.

Martin is the Chair of the Health & Safety Committee and Member of the Audit & Risk Committee, he was elected to the board in 2022.

Martin Bardle

Judith has worked in healthcare services for over 35 years. Starting her career as a nurse and working in clinical practice for twenty years, Judith moved to operational management in 2005 and has led teams within specialist, acute and community services.

Judith became a Board Director in 2011 when she joined Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust as the Chief Operating Officer, the highlight being the design, delivery and move to the new Children’s Hospital in the Park. Judith joined the team leading the support to the Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust in 2016, and along with Salford Royal Foundation Trust, a new hospital Group was created. Judith is the Chief Delivery Officer on the Board of Directors, a role she has occupied since 2017.

Judith’s clinical and operational experience is underpinned by a strong commitment to both clients and staff, ensuring they are at the centre of quality improvement and tackling inequalities.

Judith Adams

Lucy is the Chief Executive Officer at Leeds Mind and has over 25 years experience, largely in the third sector with a range of charities, specifically in the areas of homelessness, multiple needs, criminal justice, mental health and wellbeing.

Lucy has substantial operational and leadership experience with a focus on continuous improvement, equality and inclusion, user involvement and lived experience. Lucy also sits on a variety of cross-sector forums, including safeguarding, domestic abuse, trauma, and mental health reference groups. It is this mix of career, voluntary, personal experiences and interests that Lucy believes can be of benefit to St Anne’s both through the committee work and overall in supporting the organisation to deliver its aims and objectives. Lucy sits on the Quality and Safeguarding committee and is keen to see how this work relates to St Anne’s values.

Outside of work Lucy enjoys time with her family, most things food-wise, travel, running, yoga and is part of a longstanding book group that even does some reading.

Lucy is a Member of the Quality & Safeguarding Committee and a Member of the Health & Safety Committee, she was elected to the board in 2022.

 

Lucy Hancock

Ira Jeffers is their Director of People and oversees HR, Recruitment, Workforce Development, and PBS.  Ira has more than twenty years’ of experience working in a variety of charity, public sector, and educational settings in both operational and HR leadership roles, most recently as Head of HR for AQA.

Ira’s early career began at St. Annes, where fresh out of university, he started as an HR Assistant at St. Mark’s Avenue, Leeds which gave him an understanding of their services and a love for public services.  From there he moved from St. Anne’s to West Yorkshire Police, which was followed by senior HR roles at the University of Bradford.

Ira has extensive experience as a school governor at Adel school, and as a youth leader across Leeds.

Ira Jeffers

Caroline is a Non-Executive Director at Al Rayan Bank PLC and Loughborough Building Society and a qualified Chartered Management Accountant.

Caroline has 20 years Executive Director experience at TD Direct Investing and Tenet Group and brings in depth Finance, Risk and Regulatory experience. She also brings experience in significant digital projects.

Caroline connected with St Anne’s early in life when a family member was helped a number of times by the charity. She lives in Leeds and is a proud mum of two adult children.

Caroline is Chair of the Audit & Risk Committee, and a Member of the Pension & Investment Committee. Caroline was elected to the board in 2022.

Caroline Ashton

Annie is a Registered Nurse and a Director of Nursing at the NHS North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board and NHS England. Annie has held senior management and Board level positions in a range of commissioning and provider organisations in the NHS, private sector and third sector. Annie has over 30 years’ experience in healthcare and brings along a wealth of knowledge in Quality and Patient Safety at both strategic and operational levels.

Annie is passionate about health and racial equity.  She would like to use her professional and lived experience to make a positive difference to St Anne’s clients.

Annie is a mentor at The Prince’s Trust and the vice chair of Tyne Housing Association. Annie holds a MBA from Henley Management College and a LLM in medical law from Newcastle Northumbria University.

Annie lives in the North East and is a keen half marathon runner.

Annie was elected to the Board in 2022.

Annie Topping

Alison is a member of the Chartered Institute of Housing and has been in the profession for over 25 years, working for Housing Associations and Local Authorities across Yorkshire in both front-line and strategic roles.

Since 2009 Alison has worked for a large Bradford-based housing association where she is Head of Policy & Performance. Alison has a strong belief in the importance of affordable, quality social housing with a particular interest in service improvement and performance and experience as a voluntary housing association board member.

Alison has a commitment to housing education and attracting young people into the housing sector and is a tutor/mentor on a graduate housing program and has lectured in housing at Leeds Beckett University.

Alison is a Member of the Finance & Performance Sub-Committee

Alison was elected to the board in 2021.

Alison Leech

Geoff is a professional Actuary, bringing to the role significant commercial and technical knowledge and experience.

He is keen to support St Anne’s and work within the charity sector to ensure St Anne’s continues to make a difference people's lives.

Geoff was elected to the Board in 2020.

Geoff Dalton

Mark is a Head of Service in Leeds City Council’s Legal Department and has spent most of his career as a local government solicitor. He advises on data protection, FOI, IP, and Tech law, and has an LLM in Cyber Law. Local government finance, equalities, and general public law are also Mark’s areas of expertise, having a Law Society Diploma in Local Government Law and Practice.

Mark has extensive experience of being a Trustee and has a long-term commitment to social housing has been the Chair of the West Yorkshire Housing Association, and then a board member of Connect Housing for nine years. Mark was also a Trustee of Lawyers in Local Government Ltd for three years and is the local government director on the board of the Leeds Law Society. Mark is committed to using his knowledge and experience to help continue and develop the much-needed services which St Anne’s provides to communities in Leeds and across the North of England.

Mark is elected to the St Anne’s board in 2020.

Mark Turnbull

Tony retired in 2019, having worked as a doctor in the NHS for 42 years, the last 23 of those as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Bradford Hospitals. His roles included several years as an Honorary Senior Lecturer for Leeds University Medical School and a period as Clinical Director of Surgery at Bradford.

While working for the NHS Tony had a major interest in Clinical Governance and served as Governance Lead for his department, which he feels helps him to contribute to the Committees on which he serves.

Tony is Chair of the Quality Sub-Committee. Member of the Health and Safety Sub-committee.

Elected to the Board 2020.

Tony Watters

Bryan is the Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Finance at Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust. He has over 15 years of experience as an NHS Finance Director in a 36-year NHS career spanning a wide range of organizations across the north of England. Although an accountant by profession, Bryan has had a wide range of responsibilities over his career; currently he is responsible for Informatics, IT, Business Intelligence, Estates, and Health & Safety as well as Finance.

Bryan has taken an increased interest in recent years in how the NHS meets the needs of vulnerable patients. Bryan hopes the skills and experience, he has built up over the years can be of benefit to St Anne’s and the people we support.

Bryan was elected to the board in 2020, is Vice-Chair of St Anne’s and Chair of the Finance & Performance Sub-Committee, and is a Member of the Remuneration, Nominations & Governance Sub-Committee.

Bryan Machin

Anthea is Chief Executive of White Ribbon UK, a charity that works to end male violence against women.

In 1994 Anthea founded the ground-breaking Goldhay Arts, for artists and performers with learning disabilities. She has worked for several charities and voluntary organizations and was Director of the Learning Disability Coalition where she campaigned to improve funding for social care for people with learning disabilities. Her research interests include human rights law and community theatre.

In her spare time, Anthea likes running, hiking, and playing her violin with the Lavender Café Orchestra.

Anthea is Chair of St Anne’s, Member of the Remuneration, Nominations & Governance Sub-Committee.

Anthea was elected to the board in 2021.

Anthea Sully

Mario’s background is within the social care and hospitality sectors, most recently as the Head of Business Development, Marketing, and Communications for another leading social care provider. He has also been a Director of a homecare subsidiary where he championed the importance of continuity of care and the need to address loneliness and inactivity among older, vulnerable people. Prior to this, Mario has held senior management positions within leading hospitality businesses, most notably Marriott International as an Assistant Director of Business & Finance. Since joining the social care sector, Mario has developed a passion for progressive change, particularly around how we use data, technology, and housing to support individuals to live a life that is uniquely right for them.

Mario Caswell

Chris has more than 30 years of experience working in the care and support housing sector working across a broad range of client groups. He has worked for both national and regional providers and has 20 years of experience at the Executive level.

In these roles, Chris has developed and implemented care and support strategies, led organizational change, undertaken business streams, and service reviews, developed alternative operating models, and responded to efficiency agendas.

He has served as Chair of the National Housing Federation Care and Support Committee and has sat on the board of both housing organizations and charities including as an appointee to a small failing organization. He has also been chair of a social enterprise supporting formerly homeless people in the bakery business.

Chris joined St Anne’s as Interim Housing and Estates Director in November 2021.


Chris Munday

Shona has joined St Anne’s as the Operations Director/Deputy CEO. Shona has worked within Health and Social Care in the voluntary sector for the majority of her career, including drug and alcohol treatment, mental health, and learning disability. Her most recent role was as an Operations Director in the private sector covering both residential and supported living services as well as complex autism and challenging behaviors. She has also been both a Trustee and Chair of various health and social care charities.

Shona Beaton

Azra joined St Anne’s in 2019 and has been in the charitable social care sector for over 18 years in leadership roles as Chief Executive and Finance Officers. Prior to this, Azra began her career at Price Waterhouse as a Chartered Accountant before gaining a breadth of experience in commercial housing. Azra has a strong commercial background and a wealth of social and home care experience.

Azra is passionate about ensuring St Anne’s delivers the highest quality care, support, and housing for clients and tenants, whilst enabling them to have independence and choice.

Azra is a strong advocate for St Anne’s and the social care sector and hopes that alongside partner organizations we can provide a greater choice for all clients. Working to create more awareness of the sector challenges, Azra is a trustee of the Voluntary Organisation of Disability Groups (VODG) which supports sector-specific members.
