Ron Nelson

Director at Strategen

Ron Nelson is the Director at Strategen, a company that provides expert testimony on cost of service modeling, rate design, grid modernization and utility business models. Prior to their current position, Ron was an economist at the Office of the Minnesota Attorney General from 2013-2017. There, they provided analysis on conservation incentive programs, value of solar, grid modernization, performance based regulation, renewable energy program design, and MISO.

Ron has also worked as an Economic Research Associate for the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and as a Graduate Research Associate at Colorado State University. Ron's research has focused on federal land use management practices and ways to increase the social benefits derived from them. Ron also developed a database that aids in identifying important agricultural lands.

Ron Nelson's experience and expertise in economics makes him uniquely qualified to help Strategen's clients navigate the ever-changing landscape of the utility industry.

Ron Nelson has a Master of Science in Agricultural and Resource Economics from Colorado State University, a Minor in Mathematics from Western Washington University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Economics from Western Washington University.
