Damilola Ogunbiyi

CEO & Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General at SEforALL

Damilola Ogunbiyi is the current CEO & Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General at Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL). Prior to this, they served as the Managing Director/CEO of the Rural Electrification Agency of Nigeria from May 2017 to December 2019. In this role, they were responsible for implementing the Nigerian Off-Grid electrification programme, and the Nigerian Electrification Project (NEP) - a $550m Facility (World Bank $350m and AfDB $200m) - to rapidly increase and develop solar mini grids and the deployment of solar home systems within Nigeria.

Ogunbiyi also oversaw the implementation of the Energizing Education Programme, an effort by the Federal Government of Nigeria to provide uninterrupted electricity to 37 federal universities and 7 university teaching hospitals through off-grid captive power plants. In addition, they were responsible for the implementation of the Energizing Economies Initiative, which provides sustainable and affordable off grid power solutions to economic clusters in Nigeria.

Prior to their role at the Rural Electrification Agency of Nigeria, Ogunbiyi served as the Senior Special Assistant to the President of Nigeria/ Head of the Advisory Power Team at the Office of the Vice President from June 2015 to December 2019. Before this, they were the General Manager of Lagos State Electricity Board at Lagos State Government from March 2010 to June 2015.
