Wilson Barmeyer defends class action lawsuits, complex business litigation matters, and governmental regulatory examinations and audits, with a focus on litigation and regulatory matters involving financial services, insurance and broker-dealers. He also provides advice and guidance on all facets of unclaimed property matters, including audit defense, litigation counsel, compliance and planning strategies.

Wilson’s unclaimed property practice focuses on defending companies in multistate unclaimed property audits and litigation. He has defended dozens of companies in multistate audits conducted by contingent fee auditors and has represented numerous clients in unclaimed property litigation in multiple states. He has also worked with many clients who wish to come into compliance through voluntary disclosure programs. He advises clients on a wide range of unclaimed property and compliance issues, including escheat planning for gift cards and other stored-value programs and the use of the Social Security Death Master File to identify unclaimed benefits. Wilson has counseled clients on unclaimed property issues across various industries, including insurance, financial services, broker-dealer, retail, restaurant, technology, media and telecommunications. He works with Eversheds Sutherland (US)'s multidisciplinary team of regulatory, tax and litigation attorneys to address unclaimed property issues involving new business models and emerging technologies.

Wilson is also a member of Eversheds Sutherland (US)'s Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) team and defends companies in class action litigation under the TCPA. He provides advice on compliance and best practices on TCPA issues, the telemarketing sales rule, Do Not Call, industry standards for text messaging, CAN-SPAM, and other consumer protection and privacy statutes. He has worked with a wide range of industries on these issues, especially the insurance and financial services industries.

On a pro bono basis, Wilson is serving as lead class action counsel advocating for the asylum rights of parents separated from their children at the US-Mexico border during the summer of 2018.

Wilson earned a J.D., summa cum laude, from the University of Georgia School of Law where he was a member of the Georgia Law Review. He earned a B.A. in Economics, with distinction, from Cornell University and studied at the London School of Economics. Prior to joining the firm, Wilson served as a law clerk for the Honorable William T. Moore, Jr. of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Georgia.
