VP, Assurance & Advisory at Teck

Sarah Hughes is the current Vice President, Assurance & Advisory at Teck. Sarah has over 15 years of experience in the areas of risk, assurance, and finance.

Sarah started their career in 2005 as a Senior Accountant, Assurance at Deloitte Canada. Sarah then moved to British Petroleum (BP) in 2009 as an Internal Auditor. In 2012, they joined Goldcorp as the Director, Finance Improvement & Controls. In 2019, Sarah founded their own consulting firm, Hughes Consulting.

Sarah has been instrumental in building the Group Risk and Assurance strategic vision, roadmap and methodology at Trevali. Sarah has also provided guidance on the development of a Group Management System to support the management of material group risks. Sarah has prepared aggregate enterprise risk reporting for management and the Board and facilitated discussions with the Senior Management Team and embedded the group risk process into the Strategic Business Planning cycle.

At Teck, Sarah is responsible for leading the Assurance & Advisory team in providing assurance services to Teck’s businesses and functions globally.

Sarah Hughes completed a Bachelor of Commerce with Honours in Accounting from The University of British Columbia. Sarah also obtained certification from Chartered Professional Accountants of British Columbia as a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) / Chartered Accountant (CA). Sarah Hughes also completed an executive education program with ExecOnline called Building and Leading Effective Teams from Columbia Business School.

They are on a team with Shehzad Bharmal - SVP, Base Metals, North America and Peru, Robin B. Sheremeta - SVP, Coal, and Harry Red M. Conger - EVP & COO. Their manager is Donald R. Lindsay, President and CEO.
