Senior Consultant at Teknion Data Solutions

Gayle Bunn is a Senior Consultant at Teknion Data Solutions. Gayle has over 20 years of experience in the field of data architecture, development, and management.

Gayle began their career as a developer at Jackson Hewitt Tax Service Inc. in April 2019. Gayle was quickly promoted to Lead Data Warehouse Architect and Senior Developer, responsible for architecting, defining development patterns, training development staff, and managing development staff. In this role, they successfully built a new data vault data warehouse to support the company’s business intelligence process within 1 year.

Some of their key accomplishments include successfully architecting a high performing enterprise data warehouse from scratch using a Data Vault 2.0 and Kimball-based star schema hybrid solution with SQL server and SSIS on AWS, which saved the company over $1M. Gayle also developed conceptual, logical, and physical data models so leadership and other staff could easily understand planned development outcomes.

In addition, Gayle created reusable templates that junior developers could easily follow to create hubs, satellites, links, dimensions, and facts, which reduced development time by 80%. Gayle also created point-in-time designs using “is current”, “valid from”, and “valid to” values to support Type 2 methodology.

Gayle also managed and defined agile-based projects in Rally by defining necessary tasks needed by development staff, saving the Product Owner over 50% time in defining tasks for sprints. Gayle also managed the work of development staff by performing training, code reviews, TFS check-in, and DBProjects deployment to DEV, TEST, STAGING, and PROD environments.

In their role as Lead Data Warehouse Architect, Gayle also established incremental and full-load patterns in SSIS to run the data warehouse with flexible project-level parameters and child tasks that used stored procedure-based queries for loading data in parallel. Gayle also designed clustered and heap indexing approaches that optimized the ETL process for loading and reading data at the appropriate ETL layer.

Gayle’s extensive experience in data architecture and management has resulted in numerous successes in their career. Gayle is highly skilled in designing high performing transformation processes using master configuration definitions to translate OLTP to OLAP business definitions. Gayle is also an expert in developing Confluence sites that define DBA-approved standards, subject area diagrams, and training material – all of which help to minimize the training needed for new developers by 75%.

Gayle Bunn has a MS in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix, a PMP from the Institute of Project Management, and a BS in Electrical Engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. Gayle also has certification from Snowflake in Hands On Snowflake - WebUI Essentials.
