William Frist

U.S. Sen. William Frist became a member of our board of directors in September 2014. Since 2007, Sen. Frist has served as a partner in Cressey & Company, a private investment firm focused exclusively on growing emerging health care businesses. He served as U.S. Senator for Tennessee from 1995 to 2007 and was majority leader of the Senate from 2003 to 2007, participating in the debate and development of major public policy issues and health legislation. Prior to the Senate, Sen. Frist spent 20 years in clinical medicine, completing surgical training at Harvard’s Massachusetts General Hospital and at Stanford; he subsequently founded the Vanderbilt Multi-Organ Transplant Center. Sen. Frist serves as an adjunct professor of cardiac surgery at Vanderbilt University and clinical professor of surgery at Meharry Medical College. Sen. Frist currently serves as a member of the board of the publicly held companies Select Medical and AECOM. In addition, he serves as a board member for several of Cressey & Company’s privately held portfolio companies. He previously served as a director of URS Corporation from November 2009 to 2014, and on the board of Third National Bank from 1990 to 1994.

Sen. Frist serves on the boards of several other organizations, including the Center for Strategic and International Studies, Partnership for a Healthier America, Hope Through Healing Hands, the Kaiser Family Foundation, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Nashville Health Care Council and the Harvard Medical School Board of Fellows.

He is a senior fellow at the Bipartisan Policy Center, where he is co-leader of the Health Project. Sen. Frist earned a Bachelor of Arts from Princeton University and an M.D. from Harvard Medical School.
