Jonathan E. Meyer is the General Counsel at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Jonathan has held this position since October 2021.

Meyer began their career as an Associate at Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP from October 1992 to June 1995. Jonathan then became an Associate at Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering from October 1995 to October 1999. In October 1999, they joined the U.S. Department of Justice as Senior Counsel and Deputy Assistant Attorney General. Jonathan served in this role until July 2001, when they became Counsel to Senator Biden.

In February 2011, Meyer returned to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security as Deputy General Counsel. Jonathan served in this role until September 2016, when they left to become a Partner at Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton LLP. Jonathan remained at Sheppard Mullin until their return to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in October 2021.

Jonathan E. Meyer graduated from Walnut Hills High School and then went on to Harvard University where they earned their BA in Social Studies. Jonathan then attended Columbia Law School and earned their JD. Finally, they attended Princeton University and earned their MPA in Domestic Policy/International Relations.

Jonathan E. Meyer reports to Alejandro Mayorkas, Secretary. They work with Randolph D. Alles - Acting Under Secretary for Management, Brenda Abdelall - Assistant Secretary, Office of Partnership & Engagement, and Phyllis Coven - Citizenship & Immigration Services Ombudsman.
