Isabelle Sarraf joined The Information as an editorial fellow following her graduation from Northwestern University, where she studied journalism and political science. A New York native, she has previously worked at The Wall Street Journal, where she covered education, Bloomberg’s tax and law vertical, and the Chicago Sun-Times on its metro desk. Michelle joined The Information as VP of Brand Partnerships in August, 2022. Previously, she spent ten years at Bloomberg where she led the national Tech/Telco Brand Partnerships team. Most recently, Michelle was at TIME media, where she ran the Midwest and West Coast sales teams. Having spent her formative years in Japan, Michelle now calls San Francisco home.

Amy Townsend is a full stack software engineer at The Information. Amy has previously worked as a software engineer at [Fanhouse](/org/fanhouse), a front-end developer at [Viget](/org/viget), and as a web developer at the UNC School of Media and Journalism. Amy has also interned as a special project intern and office assistant at the UNC School of Media and Journalism, and as a design assistant at the [University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill](/org/university-of-north-carolina-at-chapel-hill).

Amy Townsend earned a Bachelor's degree in Media and Journalism Major - Interactive Multimedia from UNC School of Media and Journalism. Kaya Yurieff joined [The Information](/org/the-information) in April 2021 to launch the creator economy newsletter. Previously, she covered technology and social media platforms at CNN, including an investigation into customers baiting [Instacart](/org/instacart) workers with false promises of large tips, which prompted four senators to call for an FTC investigation. Kaya has also written about YouTuber burnout, how parents are navigating their teens’ sudden TikTok fame and major brands inadvertently advertising on extremist YouTube channels, resulting in at least one company pausing advertising on the platform. She started her journalism career writing breaking news at TheStreet. She is fluent in Polish.

Karl Wells is currently the Chief Commercial Officer at [The Information](/org/the-information). Karl has held this position since September 2015. Prior to this, they were the Chief Subscriptions Officer at [Dow Jones](/org/dow-jones) from September 2015 to August 2022. Before that, they were the Director, Subscriptions Net Growth, at The Sun from May 2012 to September 2015. In that role, they were responsible for maximizing digital subscriber growth for The Sun by driving profitable customer acquisition and minimizing churn. Karl also developed new propositions based on customer need and oversaw a churn management program.

Previously, Karl was the Communications Planning Director at Mindshare from November 2008 to May 2012. Before that, they were the Communications Planning Manager at [MediaCom](/org/mediacom) from August 2003 to October 2008.

Sylvia Varnham O'Regan covers Facebook and other social media companies for [The Information](/org/the-information). Her work, which includes investigations and narrative features, has been published in [The New York Times](/org/new-york-times), [Los Angeles Times](/org/los-angeles-times), [The Atlantic](/org/the-atlantic), The Guardian and GQ, among other publications. Prior to joining [The Information](/org/the-information), Sylvia reported for [The Real Deal](/org/the-real-deal) magazine, where she frequently broke news about New York's real estate industry. Originally from Wellington, New Zealand, she graduated with a master's degree from Columbia Journalism School in 2017.

Aaron Holmes is a Enterprise Tech Reporter at [The Information](/org/the-information). Aaron was previously a Tech Fellow at Business Insider from September 2019 to March 2020. Prior to that, they were an intern at the Tampa Bay Times - Times Publishing Co from June 2019 to August 2019 where they did local news coverage in the St. Pete area. Aaron also interned at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution from June 2018 to August 2018 where they covered state and federal politics with a focus on state and federal midterm elections.

Maria Heeter has been a reporter at [The Information](/org/the-information) since May 2022. Prior to that, they were a computer science tutor at [Pitzer College](/org/pitzer-college) from January to May 2022 and a summer news intern at Bloomberg News in June and August 2021. From July 2020 to September 2020, Maria was a general news assignment intern at The Sacramento Bee, covering business, retail, wildfires, and coronavirus. Maria was also the editor-in-chief of The Student Life Newspaper from May 2020 to November 2020, leading the student newspaper of the seven Claremont Colleges and overseeing 110 staffers during a year of remote learning. In January 2020, Maria interned at InDepth New Hampshire as a reporting intern.

She studied journalism and marketing at [Syracuse University](/org/syracuse-university) but was born and raised in the Bay Area. In her free time, she enjoys reading novels, traveling, and drinking boba.

Paris Martineau covers Amazon for [The Information](/org/the-information). Previously, she was a reporter at [Wired](/org/wired), where she broke stories on [Airbnb](/org/airbnb), the homesharing industry, and tech companies big and small. Paris began her career writing about internet culture for [New York Magazine](/org/new-york-magazine)’s (now-defunct) tech blog, Select All, and later covered social media manipulation as a staff writer at The Outline. She lives in Brooklyn with her cat, Gizmo.

Martin Peers joined The Information as a columnist in September, 2014 and became Managing Editor in December 2015. In January 2022 he became New York Bureau Chief/Columnist, writing the nightly Briefing newsletter, among other articles. He previously spent 15 years at The Wall Street Journal, including a three year stint as Media and Marketing bureau chief where he oversaw the paper’s coverage of the media and entertainment industries. Before that, he was Deputy Editor of Heard on the Street, the paper’s financial analysis section. Martin was a prolific writer of columns about the convergence of technology and media. He was part of a team of Journal reporters that won the Pulitzer Prize for explanatory reporting in 2003. Before joining the Journal, he covered the business side of the entertainment industry for Daily Variety and Variety in New York. Prior to that he worked for The New York Post and several newspapers in Australia, where he grew up.

Nate is The Information's first Finance Editor. He spent 13 years at The Wall Street Journal, has an MBA from Columbia Business School and was a Knight-Bagehot Fellow in business journalism.

Jooyoung is the Subscription Growth Analytics Director at The Information. He was previously at Insider Inc. overseeing Revenue Analytics. Jooyoung hails from the Northeast and currently resides in New Jersey. His hobbies include eating, all things tech, and doing nothing with his canine companion.

Jordan Poling joined the information in September of 2018. He came to the Bay Area after spending a decade in New York as a musician. He has previously worked at Twitch as well as a number of startups.

Shai Oster currently serves as Asia Bureau Chief at [The Information](/org/the-information). 

Oster began their career in 1994 as a reporter for the Greenfield Recorder. Shai then moved on to the Springfield Union-News/Republican in 1996. In 1998, they relocated to China to work as a foreign expert for the China Daily. The following year, they became Beijing Bureau Chief for Asiaweek. 

In 2001, Oster left Asiaweek to return to the United States where they began freelancing for the San Francisco Chronicle. In 2002, they were hired by Dow Jones Newswires as a reporter covering OPEC. Shai then moved to [The Wall Street Journal](/org/the-wall-street-journal) in 2005 where they worked as a reporter covering energy and the environment until 2011. Oster joined Bloomberg in 2011 as a Reporter-at-Large and remained with the company until 2016 when they accepted their current position at [The Information](/org/the-information).

George is the VP, Growth at The Information. He most recently served as the SVP, Marketing At Insider Intelligence overseeing the content marketing, design & development, and marketing operations teams. George has worked in the media business for over 10 years spending time leading marketing functions at Dotdash and Business Insider. Currently residing in the suburbs of New York, he enjoys spending time with his wife and three kids and doing almost anything that takes him outdoors.

Wayne Ma is a reporter at [The Information](/org/the-information). Wayne previously worked at Dow Jones Newswires and [The Wall Street Journal](/org/the-wall-street-journal), where they were a copy editor on the general news desk from 2008-2009 in Singapore, Asia oil markets reporter from 2009-2011 in Singapore, China energy and environment reporter from 2011-2014 in Beijing, corporate news reporter covering Asian conglomerates and tycoons from 2015-2016 in Hong Kong, and China consumer reporter from 2016-2018 in Beijing. Prior to that, they interned at Bloomberg News, Popular Mechanics, and Marketwatch. Wayne Ma began their journalism career as an intern at the Quad City Times in 2005 and The Record in 2004.

Kate Ronalds is the Director of Brand Partnerships at [The Information](/org/the-information). Kate has over eight years of experience in business development and account management. Kate has a proven track record in building and maintaining relationships with clients. Kate has a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the [University of Washington](/org/university-of-washington). 

Kate started their career at Cdigix as the Campus Promotion and Marketing Manager. Kate was responsible for generating awareness of Cdigix's products and services on college campuses. After Cdigix, Kate worked as an Account Coordinator at INTERCALL. In this role, they provided support to account managers and sales representatives. Kate then joined [Groupon](/org/groupon) in 2010 as an Account Executive. In this role, they managed a portfolio of clients and was responsible for meeting their needs. Kate was promoted to Strategic Account Executive in 2011 and then to Director of Business Development in 2015. In this role, Kate oversaw a team of account managers and was responsible for developing new business opportunities. Kate left [Groupon](/org/groupon) in 2018 to join [The Information](/org/the-information) as the Director of Brand Partnerships.

Maria DeFelice joined [The Information](/org/the-information) in 2015. She previously worked as the Director of PR for a music promotion company and most recently at the tech startup HotelTonight. She’s a Texas native who graduated from [Boston University](/org/boston-university) and stayed on the East Coast until migrating to the Bay Area in 2013. She is also a Notary Public.

Steven is president of [Rubenstein](/org/rubenstein), an independent strategic communications firm.

The firm represents clients across a range of industries, including 21st Century Fox, Apollo Global, BMW, HBO and Jerry Seinfeld. In addition to active representation of a core group of clients, he oversees the day-to-day operations of the agency.

Steven began his [Rubenstein](/org/rubenstein) career in 1992 as an account executive. Throughout his tenure, he has worked closely with his father, Howard J. [Rubenstein](/org/rubenstein), who founded the company in 1954 and today serves as Chairman.

Steven is a graduate of the [University of Pennsylvania](/org/university-of-pennsylvania). He serves on the boards of directors of the Association for a Better New York, [Friends of the High Line](/org/friends-of-the-high-line), Mayors Fund to Advance New York City and Reboot.

Howard J. Rubenstein

Jessica E. Lessin founded [The Information](/org/the-information) in 2013 and is the publication’s Editor-in-Chief. She covered Silicon Valley and the technology industry for eight years at the Wall Street Journal. At the Journal, she wrote nearly 1,000 articles for the paper, consistently breaking news about major products, management changes and strategy shifts at Apple, Google, Yahoo, Facebook, Twitter and other Internet companies. She was part of a team that was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for a 2011 series on digital privacy and has appeared on [CNBC](/org/cnbc), NPR, CNN and PBS’s “The Charlie Rose Show.” Jessica graduated from [Harvard University](/org/harvard) in 2005 and lives in San Francisco.

Amy graduated from [Middlebury College](/org/middlebury-college) in 1997, and while a Southern California native, she’s been happily living in San Francisco since 2002. Laura joined [The Information](/org/the-information) in 2020 as a senior editor and has managed a team of reporters focused on venture capital and startups who won SABEW awards in 2021 and 2022 for their reporting on the fundamental changes sweeping the industry. Before joining [The Information](/org/the-information), she was San Francisco bureau chief for Forbes, where she managed a team of technology, venture capital and future-of-industry reporters. Previously, she was a technology and national editor at USA TODAY in San Francisco, where she led coverage of the unexpected consequences of the tech boom and helped launch a consumer tech blog. She spent seven years at Dow Jones/MarketWatch, starting as an industrials and aerospace reporter and eventually leading the markets and investing teams, where she was an editor on a SABEW-award winning series on gold. She started her career at American Banker in New York City.

His reporting on [Uber](/org/uber)’s corporate missteps and on the dangers and limits of self-driving vehicle development at [Tesla](/org/tesla), [Uber](/org/uber), [Alphabet](/org/alphabet-int)’s Waymo, and [General Motors](/org/general-motors)’ Cruise won consecutive Best in Business awards from the Society for Advancing Business Editing and Writing (SABEW) in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020. Before [The Information](/org/the-information), he spent the previous nine years at the Wall Street Journal reporting on technology, health, and criminal justice. He was first to report on Bernie Madoff’s arrest and broke major news about the epic fraud. Federal judges have cited his reporting on egregious criminal sentencing. His TV and radio appearances include [CNBC](/org/cnbc), PBS, BBC, Fox, and NPR. He graduated from the [University of Iowa](/org/university-of-iowa), which is his home state.

Jim was a congressional and White House reporter for [The Washington Post](/org/the-washington-post) and ​The ​Wall Street Journal before becoming an entrepreneur. ​Jim ​and fellow co-founder John F. Harris were named the 2015 Editors of the Year by the National Press Foundation.

Hayley co-founded [Birchbox](/org/birchbox), a beauty retailer, and is currently a venture partner at [First Round Capital](/org/first-round-capital). She served as co-CEO at [Birchbox](/org/birchbox) for five years from conception to launch and helped grow the business. She expanded [Birchbox](/org/birchbox) internationally and launched new business channels like men’s and retail stores. Hayley oversaw marketing, operations, strategy and technology. Before [Birchbox](/org/birchbox), Hayley received her MBA from [Harvard Business School](/org/harvard-business-school). Ali attended Cal State East Bay and his major was Computer Sciences. Prior to The Information, he worked as a software engineer in HR and Data Analysis Industries. He also participated in different projects related to data modeling and integration.

Ali Berenjian

Andy has been leading engineering teams at Internet startups since the 1990s. He was founding engineer at firms including BabyCenter, Breakthrough Behavioral, DogTime, and GoCityKids, bringing ideas from drawing board to code to ongoing operating success. He holds a Master’s degree from Stanford and two Bachelors’ degrees from [UC Berkeley](/org/uc-berkeley). When not coding or helping others code better, he enjoys traveling, eating, learning to speak new languages, and looking at maps.

John is a legendary Silicon Valley investor who was one of the first investors in Google, Amazon.com and [Intuit](/org/intuit). He serves on the boards of [Amyris](/org/amyris), Alphabet/Google, and [Zynga](/org/zynga), as well as private ventures. He led KPCB’s investments in Twitter, [Uber](/org/uber) and [Slack](/org/slack). John earned degrees in electrical engineering from [Rice University](/org/rice-university) and business from Harvard. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. John is a past member of President Barack Obama’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness.

Sam is currently an intern at [The Information](/org/the-information) and co-founder and co-CEO of Fin. He also invests in tech startups through [Slow Ventures](/org/slow-ventures), where he is a partner. He was formerly a vice president of product management at Facebook from 2010 to 2014, where he managed the People, Places, and Things product group and the Identity product group. Prior to joining Facebook Sam founded drop.io, a file-sharing platform that was acquired by Facebook in 2010. Before drop.io Sam was an associate at Bain and Company. In his spare time Sam enjoys skiing and kite-surfing. He is married to Jessica Lessin, founder of [The Information](/org/the-information).

Sam Lessin

Paul was a reporter and editor at the Wall Street Journal for 26 years and served as the paper’s managing editor from 1991 to 2007. He worked for 15 years at the [Los Angeles Times](/org/los-angeles-times) as a reporter, the Washington economics correspondent and the business editor. From 2008 through 2012, Paul was the founding editor-in-chief and CEO of [ProPublica](/org/propublica). He remains actively involved as executive chairman. He was chairman of the Committee to Protect Journalists from 2005 to 2011. From 1999 to 2007, he was a member of the Pulitzer Prize Board, serving as its chairman in his final year. He currently is a trustee of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and a board member and treasurer of the Global Editors Network, based in Paris.
