Lawrence Burian

EVP, Corporate Development at Madison Square Garden Entertainment

As Executive Vice President, Corporate Development for Madison Square Garden Entertainment Corp. (MSG Entertainment), Lawrence J. Burian works closely with our Board of Directors and executive management to lead significant corporate, strategic, and financial transactions that continue to strengthen the Company’s portfolio of businesses and build long-term shareholder value. MSG Entertainment’s collection of assets currently feature a wide array of venues, original productions, and entertainment dining and nightlife brands. Mr. Burian’s responsibilities include exploring new organic and external opportunities, formulating strategy, and leading corporate and commercial negotiations, as well as liaising with key stakeholders and partners.

Prior to MSG Entertainment becoming a standalone company in April 2020, Mr. Burian served as Executive Vice President and General Counsel of The Madison Square Garden Company (MSG), where he led the spin-off of MSG’s entertainment businesses from its sports business. He currently serves as Executive Vice President, Corporate Development and General Counsel for Madison Square Garden Sports Corp. (MSG Sports), a professional sports company featuring the New York Knicks (NBA) and New York Rangers (NHL), as well as Counter Logic Gaming, an esports organization. He is also Executive Vice President and General Counsel of MSG Networks Inc., which houses two regional sports and entertainment networks – MSG Network and MSG+.

Over his tenure at MSG, Mr. Burian played an instrumental role in advancing the Company’s growth. He helped spearhead a wide range of corporate initiatives that diversified the Company’s portfolio of sports and entertainment assets, including with acquisitions, such as Tao Group Hospitality, Boston Calling Events and Counter Logic Gaming; the formation of the Westchester Knicks franchise; and the pursuit of strategic partnerships with Azoff MSG Entertainment, Tribeca Enterprises and Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas. Mr. Burian also played a leadership role in several important initiatives involving MSG’s venues, including the three-year renovation of the Madison Square Garden arena; the Company’s purchase, reinvention and sale of the Forum arena in Inglewood, CA; and the Company’s land acquisitions, entitlements and construction plans for MSG Sphere in Las Vegas and London. Mr. Burian has also helped lead numerous other strategic initiatives and capital markets transactions, including the spin-off of MSG Networks from MSG; the sale of the Company’s Fuse music television network; MSG’s spin-off from Cablevision Systems Corporation; and multiple strategic investments and debt financings. At MSG, Mr. Burian served on the Boards of Directors of MSG’s many portfolio companies, and played an integral role in their strategic planning and integration.

Before joining MSG, Mr. Burian worked at Cablevision Systems Corporation for 10 years, where he played an instrumental role in many of the Company’s strategic transactions, including the acquisitions of Sundance Channel and Newsday Media Group, as well as the sale of the Fox Sports New England and Fox Sports Bay Area regional sports networks. As Senior Vice President, Associate General Counsel and Business Affairs, he provided legal and strategic counsel to the Company’s executive management. He also had oversight over various corporate legal matters, including real estate and employee benefits, and supported Cablevision’s PVI Virtual Media Services subsidiary and other strategic investments, including as a board member. Previously, Mr. Burian served as Vice President, Associate General Counsel, and as Assistant General Counsel.

Prior to Cablevision, Mr. Burian was an Associate with the law firm of Davis Polk & Wardwell, specializing in mergers and acquisitions in both their New York and London offices. He also previously served as a law clerk for then Deputy President (and later President) Aharon Barak of the Supreme Court of Israel in Jerusalem.

Mr. Burian serves on the boards of several non-profit charities in support of important issues. These include the Garden of Dreams Foundation, a non-profit organization that works with MSG Entertainment, MSG Sports and MSG Networks to assist young people in need; the American Society for Yad Vashem, which works in partnership with Yad Vashem in Jerusalem to support global Holocaust remembrance, research and education; and ElderServe Health (“RiverSpring Health”) and the affiliated Hebrew Home at Riverdale, which provide a wide variety of care and service programs for older adults across the greater New York area.

Mr. Burian holds a doctorate of jurisprudence from Yale Law School and received his Bachelor of Arts in economics from Yeshiva University in New York, where he graduated summa cum laude. Mr. Burian lives in Westchester with his wife and four children.
