The Moody Church, a 155-year-old institution in downtown Chicago, has announced the appointment of Philip Miller as its new Senior Pastor. The announcement comes after a five-year search and was made over Zoom given the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Pastor Philip becomes the 17th Senior Pastor of the oldest historic megachurch still in operation in the U.S.
Pastor Philip succeeds former Senior Pastor Dr. Erwin W. Lutzer, who is widely known for his nationally syndicated radio program, Running to Win.
Commenting on the appointment Dr. Lutzer said, "When we first met, I sensed that Philip was the man of God we had been waiting for. He has my complete support and blessing, and I look forward to doing all that I can to make his ministry successful."
Pastor Philip arrives at The Moody Church during a unique time when the ministry has moved all services online due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Until restrictions are lifted, he will manage weekly services via video calls and looks forward to getting to know and beginning to work with the church community.
"I look forward to getting to know our new Moody Church family and the Christian community in Chicago more in the coming months. I come to listen, learn, love, and then lead," said Pastor Philip.
