Mathieu D'heer is an experienced data scientist currently leading the development of an automated marine life detection system at The Ocean Cleanup since September 2021. Previously, Mathieu contributed as an AI Developer, focusing on artificial intelligence models for detecting marine life and plastics, and as an intern in automated beach plastic monitoring. Prior experience includes roles as an Administrative Supervisor at Eurofins, an Aerospace Engineer at the Micro Aerial Vehicle Laboratory, and an R&D Firmware Engineer at Bird Control Group. Mathieu's early work included a dynamics and stability engineer role on the TU Delft Solar Boat Team. Educational qualifications include a Master of Science in Control and Simulations from Delft University of Technology, along with a Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering from the same institution and a brief exchange program at Nanyang Technological University in Robotics and Sustainability.
