James D. Klingbeil

James "Jim" D. Klingbeil established the Klingbeil family real estate business in 1959 in Columbus, Ohio. Today, the operating company, known as Klingbeil Capital Management (KCM) is a multi-faceted, national real estate company with holdings throughout the United States.

Mr. Klingbeil serves as chairman of KCM and The Klingbeil Company, headquartered in San Francisco. He also serves as CEO of Klingbeil Medical Partners, a national private equity real estate investment company that focuses on medical office buildings and health care real estate.

Throughout his 60-year real estate career, Mr. Klingbeil has been an industry leader. He served as president and as a trustee for the Urban Land Institute for more than 40 years, and is now chairman emeritus and a lifetime member of the Urban Land Institute Foundation.

He currently serves as lead independent director and non-executive chairman of the Board of Directors of UDR, Inc., a publicly traded real estate investment trust. Mr. Klingbeil also served as co-founder and chairman of the Anden Group from 1975-85, which built housing in the United States, Paris and London.

A native of Painesville, Ohio, Mr. Klingbeil earned his Bachelor of Science from The Ohio State University and continues to play an active role in the university. In addition to being a charter member of the Board of Trustees, he has served on the Ohio State Foundation Board of Directors and chaired its Development Committee.

He and his wife, Sally, live in San Francisco and have four adult children.
