Sarah Sharples

Sarah Sharples is currently serving as Vice President and Dean of Science and Engineering at The University of Manchester, a position held since September 2025. Prior to this role, Sarah held the position of Chief Scientific Adviser at the Department for Transport from July 2021 to September 2025. Sarah has an extensive academic background at the University of Nottingham, where roles included Professor of Human Factors, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research and Knowledge Exchange in the Faculty of Engineering, Associate Professor and Reader in Human Factors, and Lecturer in Human Factors, all spanning from October 1998 to September 2025. Sarah earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Human Factors and Engineering from the University of Nottingham.
