Elizabeth Benegas

Liz Benegas has a wealth of experience in the legal field, with a specialization in cybersecurity and privacy. Liz is currently a Member of the Board of Directors for the American Dog Society, which they joined in 2023. Prior to that, they served as General Counsel for Torii from 2022, where they provided legal guidance and support. Liz also held the position of Secretary of the Board of Directors for WiCyS Utah starting in 2022.

From 2020 to 2023, Liz served on the Cybersecurity and Privacy Section Leadership Committee for the Utah State Bar. In this role, they contributed their expertise to guide the organization in matters related to cybersecurity and privacy.

Liz's previous roles include being the General Counsel for Totango from 2021 to 2022, where they played a key role in leading legal, privacy, and compliance functions. Prior to that, Liz served as the General Counsel for NetDocuments from 2018 to 2021, where they established and managed legal processes and policies and collaborated with various teams on privacy and security matters. Liz also worked as a Senior Corporate Counsel for DealerSocket from 2016 to 2018, providing legal advice on a wide range of issues and overseeing legal operations.

Earlier in their career, Liz worked as the Manager of Professional Development for Richards, Layton & Finger from 2012 to 2015. Liz started their legal career as a Corporate Attorney for the same firm from 2003 to 2008.

Liz Benegas holds a Doctor of Law (JD) degree from Penn State Dickinson Law. Prior to that, they completed their undergraduate education at the University of Mary Washington, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Political Science and Government. In addition to their educational qualifications, Liz also holds various certifications, including a California Bar License, a Certificate of Cloud Security Knowledge from the Cloud Security Alliance, a Certified Data Protection Officer from PECB, a Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM) from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), a Certified Information Privacy Professional/Europe from IAPP, a Certified Information Privacy Professional/United States from IAPP, a Certified in Cybersecurity certification from (ISC)², a Delaware Bar License from the Delaware Supreme Court, a Fellow of Information Privacy designation from IAPP, a New York Registered In-House Counsel designation from the New York Supreme Court Appellate Division, First Department, and a Utah Bar License from the Utah State Bar.
