Nathalia Batista

Nathalia Batista, MSc, PhD, has a diverse and extensive work experience. Nathalia is currently working as a Scientist at Treadwell Therapeutics, Inc., where they started in September 2022. Prior to this, they served as an Associate Scientist at the same company from February 2022 to August 2022.

From 2021 to 2022, Nathalia held various positions at the Immigrant & International Women in Science Network. Nathalia served as the City co-Leader for the Toronto Chapter from February 2021 to October 2022 and also held the role of National Board Member and Communications & Marketing Committee co-Chair from March 2021 to February 2022. In these roles, they managed a team of 7 people, organized national events and fundraising campaigns, and provided training to new volunteers.

Before joining Treadwell Therapeutics and the Immigrant & International Women in Science Network, Nathalia worked at the University of Toronto. As a Research Associate from July 2020 to February 2022, they designed, executed, and managed complex studies to understand T cell activity and APC-T cell interaction during viral infections and cancer. Nathalia also conducted in vitro studies to investigate the T cell recall response to SARS-CoV-2 antigens after COVID-19 vaccination. Additionally, Nathalia supervised three trainees and provided guidance on their projects.

Prior to their role as a Research Associate, Nathalia worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Toronto from April 2017 to June 2020. During this time, they conducted in vitro and in vivo studies to understand T cell activity and APC-T cell interaction. Nathalia also conducted literature reviews to develop new hypotheses for research. In their role as a Postdoctoral Fellow, Nathalia managed six trainees, providing mentorship on their projects and teaching laboratory techniques, experimental design, data analysis, and critical thinking.

Nathalia's work experience also includes a Visiting PhD Fellow position at Humanitas University from February 2014 to July 2015. Nathalia was awarded an international fellowship from CNPq-Brazil and conducted research in the laboratories of Dr. Cecilia Garlanda and Massimo Locati.

In 2012, Nathalia was a Visiting Fellow at the Université de Rennes 1. Nathalia was awarded an international fellowship to conduct research for three months during their master's degree in the laboratories of Dr. Claire Piquet-Pellorce and Michel Samson.

Additionally, Nathalia has prior experience as a Summer Intern at the University of Calgary in 2008, where they worked in the laboratory of Dr. Donna-Marie McCafferty for four months.

Nathalia Batista, MSc, PhD has a diverse education history spanning various fields of study. Nathalia attended the University of Toronto School of Continuing Studies in 2020, where they completed the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) program. In 2021 to 2022, they enrolled in the BioInnovation Scientist Training Program (BISL1) at AdMare BioInnovations.

Prior to these programs, Nathalia pursued their academic degrees at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais. From 2013 to 2017, they obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Immunology, focusing on the study of the immune system. Before their PhD, Nathalia earned a Master's degree in Cellular Biology from the same university, from 2011 to 2013. Nathalia'sresearch during this time likely explored topics related to the cellular processes within biological systems. Nathalia began their academic journey by completing a Bachelor's degree in Biology - Biotechnology from 2006 to 2010, also at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais.

In addition to their formal education, Nathalia has acquired several certifications to enhance their knowledge and skills. Nathalia completed the Advanced Cell Therapy Technology (CELLT1) program at Cytiva in April 2022. Nathalia has also completed online courses in Drug Development, Drug Development Product Management, Drug Discovery, and Drug Commercialization, all from Coursera. These courses indicate their interest in various aspects of the pharmaceutical industry.

Lastly, Nathalia had their international academic qualifications verified by the World Education Services (WES), earning the title of Doctor and confirming the completion of their PhD in Immunology in March 2019. Nathalia also holds a certification in Good Clinical Practice from The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA).
