Thomas Walsh

Thomas Walsh is currently the General Counsel at Tricon American Homes. Prior to this, they were with Tricon Residential for 5 years and 2 months, where they were responsible for all legal affairs, strategy, compliance, acquisitions, and risk management for their entire residential rental portfolio. Thomas built the legal & compliance department from scratch, managing to a clear legal vision, aligned goals, and SMART objectives for staff and outside counsel. Thomas negotiated and closed three joint ventures valued at 8.5B and six securitizations valued at $2.1B. Thomas also created efficient claims, contracts, compliance, insurance, privacy, property operations, and legislative advocacy programs. In addition, they have led legal support on scores of asset portfolio acquisitions & dispositions, REIT, M&A, financing, vendor, supplier, professional services, and development transactions. Lastly, they reduced litigation 85% concurrent with 3x growth in customers, employees, and assets under management.

Before Tricon Residential, Thomas was the General Counsel at Ascentra where they were responsible for legal strategy and compliance. Thomas oversaw legal, claims, contracting, compliance, corporate governance, IPO preparation, and corporate secretarial functions globally; created and administered ESG, FCPA, export, and privacy compliance. Thomas's responsibilities included governance and strategic planning, contracts & negotiations, corporate law & compliance, mergers & acquisitions, development & investment, claims mgt., IP protection & licensing.

Thomas has also been Of Counsel and Outside General Counsel at Murtaugh Treglia Stern & Deily LLP for 1 year 10 months.

Thomas Walsh attended the University of Southern California School of Law, where they studied law. Thomas also attended the University of Notre Dame, where they studied politics, philosophy, and economics. In addition, they studied Mandarin Chinese and Spanish at Beijing Normal University, Taiwan Normal University, and Universidad Iberoamericana.
