Fatollah Dastmalchi was born in the northwestern town of Mashad, Iran’s second-largest city. He graduated from Bangalore University, India in 1981 with Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. Mr. Dastmalchi worked as a site engineer, directing and managing the construction of hospitals and factories from 1981 to 1986 in his hometown. He moved to the United States in 1986 and eventually settled in Sacramento, where he worked for Sacramento County as a civil engineer for the department of water resources for 10 years, until 2000. He has been working for Caltrans as a transportation engineer for the past 12 years. Fatollah has been married for 22 years and has two children, a son and a daughter who go to university. During his journey from Iran to India and to the U.S., Fatollah has been an active member of the Iranian community, a strong supporter of human rights, and an advocate and supporter of a free Iran.
