Jeffrey Sachs is a University Professor and the Quetelet Professor of Sustainable Development at Columbia University in the City of New York, serving from 2002 to the present. As President and Director of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network since August 2012, and Director of the Center for Sustainable Development at the Earth Institute since June 2016, Sachs has significantly influenced sustainable development initiatives. In addition, Sachs has held various advisory roles at the United Nations since 2002, including SDG Advocate and special advisor to multiple UN Secretaries-General, focusing on key global development goals. Sachs is also a Distinguished Fellow at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) since 2015 and served as the Director of The Earth Institute from 2002 to 2016. Sachs earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Economics, a Master's in Economics, and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Harvard University, where education spanned from 1972 to 1980.
