Johanna Jefferies

Honorary Lecturer

Johanna Jefferies serves as the Associate Director of Public Health for Hampshire County Council and Isle of Wight Council since November 2020, following a role as Assistant Director of Public Health at Hampshire County Council from February 2020 to May 2022. Currently an Honorary Lecturer at the University of Southampton since August 2007, Johanna's research focuses on bacterial infection, the impact of conjugate vaccines, and the use of bacterial whole genome sequencing in public health. Previous roles include Public Health Consultant for Bracknell Forest Council, Specialist Registrar in Public Health at Public Health England, and Senior Research Scientist at the Health Protection Agency. Educational qualifications include an MSc in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, a PhD in Bacterial Genetics from the University of Glasgow, and a BSc in Microbiology from The University of Sheffield.
