Professor Max Lu AO DL FREng FAA FTSE FMCAS serves as the President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Surrey since April 2016. Since August 2017, Max Lu has been a Council Member of the Prime Minister's Council for Science and Technology and has been a Board Member at the National Physical Laboratory since December 2016. Previously, Max Lu was a Board Member of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) from September 2017 to April 2021. Prior roles at The University of Queensland included Provost and Senior Vice-President, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Research), Director of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Functional Nanomaterials, and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research Linkages). Max Lu earned a PhD in Chemical Engineering from The University of Queensland, completed the High Potential Leadership Program at Harvard Business School, and holds both a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and Metallurgy from Northeastern University (CN).
