Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Research at University of Warwick

Professor Pam Thomas is responsible for academic leadership of the research portfolio and strategy at the University of Warwick.Pam was appointed as Warwick’s first female Chair of the Faculty of Science - Warwick’s equivalent of Dean - in 2011, before taking on a Pro-Vice-Chancellor’s portfolio strongly linked to Warwick’s 50th Anniversary in 2014.Since her appointment as Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research in 2016, Pam has been instrumental in supporting and maintaining Warwick’s research excellence. This also includes preparations for the next Research Excellence Framework (REF 2021). Pam’s leadership has been instrumental in fostering interdisciplinary research, particularly through the Global Research Priorities Programme, as well as developing research impact across the University. In 2019, Pam was responsible for the launch of the University’s refreshed Research Strategy. She is supported by a Research Executive team.

Pam has an international reputation for her research on lead-free piezoelectrics and non-linear optical ferroelectrics. She has published more than 150 peer-reviewed journal articles. In 2005, Pam became the first female Professor at Warwick in Experimental Physics, and her activities for the scientific community have been numerous and varied. In 2018, she was invited by the Minister for Universities and Science to lead a task-force on Open Research Data. Pam also sits on the Faraday Institute’s board of trustees.
