Matthew O'Donnell is a distinguished academic and leader in the field of biomedical engineering, currently serving as Professor and Dean Emeritus at the University of Washington since August 2006. O'Donnell previously held the position of Professor and Chair of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Michigan, where important contributions were made as a founding member of the department. Earlier in his career, O'Donnell worked at General Electric Corporate Research & Development as a Physicist, focusing on MRI and ultrasound imaging systems. O'Donnell received a PhD in Solid State Physics and a BS in Physics from the University of Notre Dame, completing studies there from 1972 to 1976 and 1968 to 1972, respectively.
