Clinical Head Dpt Thoracic Surgery

Philippe Nafteux currently serves as the Clinical Head of the Department of Thoracic Surgery at UZ Leuven since September 2016 and is a member of the ethical committee. In addition, Philippe Nafteux holds the position of Vice-President and Secretary General for BACTS since November 2015 and is part of the ad hoc committee for esophageal surgery with the European Society for Thoracic Surgeons since September 2011. Prior experience includes serving as Adjunct Clinical Head at UZ Gasthuisberg from September 2005 to August 2016, President of the Belgian Section for Upper GI Surgery in 2016-2018, and General Secretary for the Belgian Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery from November 2011 to November 2015. Philippe Nafteux has completed visiting fellowships at Brigham and Women's Hospital and UPMC, specializing in VATS lobectomy, mesothelioma surgery, and minimally invasive esophagectomy. Educational qualifications include a Certificate in Thoracic Surgery from KU Leuven, a degree in General Surgery, and a Doctor in Medicine, along with a Doctor in Biomedical Sciences obtained in 2015 from KU Leuven.
