Anthony E. Costa

Director at Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority

Anthony E. Costa joined the Metro Board in July 2014 as an Alternate Director representing the federal government. He is currently Associate Executive Director for Real Property and Planning for the US Department of Veterans Affairs. In this role, Mr. Costa is leading VA efforts to ensure the agency's real estate assets support the provision of services to our nation's veterans.

Previously, Mr. Costa was a Senior Advisor to the Administrator of the General Services Administration. Mr. Costa is led GSA's efforts to direct real estate activities to encourage the provision of environments where communities, and employees, can live, work and thrive. Mr. Costa was GSA's Chief Human Capital Officer and led the agency-wide development and implementation of GSA's human capital strategic plan. He has extensive leadership and management experience, having served in various senior executive leadership positions within GSA's Public Building Service; including serving as its Acting Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, and Regional Commissioner for the National Capital Region. Mr. Costa holds a Bachelor of Arts in Geography from Bucknell University and a Master of Regional Planning from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has received several honors for outstanding performance, including the Walter Washington District Champion Award, presented by Leadership Greater Washington in 2008. Mr. Costa was also the recipient of Presidential Rank Awards in 2002 for Meritorious Executive and in 2004 for Distinguished Executive.
