Matt Ryan

Backend Engineer at WebDevStudios

About

Matt Ryan is a Backend Engineer at WebDevStudios (WDS). He provides technical support to customer websites, adding new features and capabilities to WordPress plugins and themes. He initially became interested in CMSs when a customer in a previous life introduced him to Joomla. After a brief dive there he moved on to WordPress and became a dedicated fan around 2013 or so.

Before joining WDS he was the owner of a small WordPress agency building, caring for, and hosting WordPress websites. Prior to that, Matt spent time as an internet software channel manager, a network designer and implementer for healthcare facilities and non-profits, and a communications manager for a US defense contractor.

He and his wife also owned and operated a mailing and shipping franchise for a bit offering “state-of-the-art” internet connectivity for brick-and-mortar customers around the Y2K timeframe. Matt is an active participant in the local WordPress community as a speaker and volunteer and leads a WordPress special interest group for the Philadelphia Area Computer Society.

Matt enjoys gardening, cooking with his home-grown ingredients, reading sci-fi on his Kindle, and walking every chance he gets. He is pretty proud of his chili, too, having won awards in local and regional chili cookoffs. Matt and his wife are grandparents to two wonderful little girls and spoil them at every opportunity.
