Douglas E. Scala is the SVP of Southern Massachusetts & Rhode Island at Webster Bank. Douglas has over 20 years of experience in finance and operations.

Douglas started their career in September 2007 as the Chief Financial Officer of The Hudson Companies, a $200+ million revenue liquid asphalt wholesaler with operating facilities in RI, Connecticut, and Maine. In 2012, they were promoted to Chief Operating Officer, and they held this position until the company was sold in 2014.

As Chief Operating Officer, Douglas was responsible for Accounting, Banking, Employee Benefits, Finance, Human Resources, IT, Legal and Operations. Douglas also led the Hudson Executive of TriProducts, a successful joint venture with All-States Asphalt. In 2011, they led the “green field site” build out of a $10 million Asphalt Rail Terminal in Wilson, NC. Douglas negotiated favorable Supply and Take-Off Agreements with two major refiners for the Wilson Terminal Operation.

In 2012, Douglas initiated over $1.5 million (17%) of cost cutting measures. Douglas also marketed and negotiated a complex five year environmental insurance policy on RI and Connecticut Terminals. After a major fire at the CT Terminal in 2010, Douglas worked directly with outside counsel on contract negotiations, collections, and environmental matters to get the terminal up and running again.

Douglas was the primary contact with Commercial and Investment Banking, Insurance, Independent Auditors, and Outside Legal Counsel. Douglas was also the Company Retirement Fund (401k) Trustee. Douglas overhauled the fund offering and hired a new Investment Advisor. In 2012, they developed and implemented the role out of the Company’s first Affirmative Action Plan. Lastly, they played a key support role in the divesture and sale of R&H Terminal, an affiliated entity.

After Douglas E. Scala earned their MBA in finance from The George Washington University School of Business, they worked in the financial sector for many years. Douglas then decided to go back to school and earn a BA in psychology from Lake Forest College.
