Shawn Walling has had extensive work experience in the energy and electrical engineering industry. Shawn started their career as a Graduate Student at the University of Arkansas in 1998. After that, they worked as a Process Engineer at Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corp, where they were responsible for the control systems at power plants. Shawn then joined Safe Foods Corporation as an Application Engineer, where they built and tested control equipment and evaluated equipment for applications in poultry and beef plants.

From 2004 to 2010, Shawn worked at North Arkansas Electric Cooperative Inc as a System Engineer. In this role, they managed a team of technicians and oversaw the management of a meter TWACS AMR system and remote disconnect switches. Shawn later joined Braden Manufacturing as a Lead Electrical and Process Engineer, where they provided quotes and interpreted bid documents and executed contracts for projects.

In 2012, Shawn joined East Central Oklahoma Electric Cooperative as the Manager of Engineering. Here, they managed stakers, inspected work orders, and oversaw a mapping and GIS technician. Shawn then moved to Arkansas Valley Electric Cooperative Corporation as the Manager of Engineering, and later to LCEC as the Manager of Design and Engineering, where they managed substations, communications, and meter services.

In 2021, Shawn became the General Manager at Lewis County REC, where they held the position until 2023. Currently, they are the Executive Vice President and CEO at West Florida Electric Cooperative.

Shawn Walling has a strong educational background and several certifications. Shawn obtained their Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Oklahoma Wesleyan University from 2011 to 2013. Prior to that, they completed a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering (MS ChE) from the University of Arkansas from 1997 to 2000. Shawn also holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering (BS ChE) from the University of Arkansas, which they earned from 1993 to 1997.

In addition to their educational achievements, Shawn has also obtained several certifications. Shawn completed the NRECA's Robert I. Kabat Management Internship Program from the NRECA in June 2023. Shawn is a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) as recognized by the Missouri Division of Professional Registration (obtained in July 2021), the State of Oklahoma PELS (obtained in November 2012), and the Arkansas Board of PELS (obtained in December 2004).
