Remote workplace platform WFHomie has announced it has hired Oliver Daniel as a Software Developer. Oliver’s role will focus on Full-Stack Development, utilizing his skills in web technologies, system architecture, and UX.
Oliver is currently studying for his degree in computer science and linguistics from the University of Toronto, though he’ll put his studies on hold while working in his new role. He has served in a wide range of summer internships while studying, gaining diverse experience with companies including Avion-Cargo Polytechnique, Nuance Communications, Scotiabank, and Tudu. He is also the former co-chair of the Toronto Youth Network.
For Oliver, being a developer is the perfect combination of his love for tech and his love for language. He can speak four languages, and is studying a fifth, and has learned a range of different coding languages, including some that are self-taught. He says his new role is especially exciting as he’s able to touch every element of the company’s platform.
“Everything that our clients interact with, I’m probably going to touch at least one line of code or some piece of the user interface,” he says. “Right now, it's mostly a lot of front-end work, but there are also a lot of opportunities to work with the database layer authentication, making sure that users' data is secure and that it's getting to all the right places. I’m also really excited about the developer operations side of it, although it’s a little scary because I haven’t done it before.
Oliver is a passionate performer, and in his spare time likes to get involved in music and live theatre, both on stage and behind the scenes. His interests in the arts is broad, including different instruments across a range of genres.
