Margaret Ackerley

SVP & General Counsel at World Wildlife Fund


Margaret Ackerley, senior vice president and general counsel, helps determine and deliver WWF’s global strategy and conservation results. She provides direct oversight of WWF’s legal, risk management, internal audit, and safety and security functions, determining long-range plans while providing day-to-day counsel in these areas. Her legal expertise includes corporate governance, regulatory compliance, contracts, litigation, employment, tax, fundraising, estates, political activity, intellectual property, and technology. Prior to joining WWF, Margaret practiced law at Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering in Washington, D.C. (now WilmerHale). While in private practice, she provided counsel to numerous Fortune 500 clients and was recognized with the firm’s first pro bono publico services award. Earlier in her career, she was a public finance analyst for the First Boston Corporation (Credit Suisse), in the areas of healthcare and higher education. Margaret graduated summa cum laude from Harvard College and received her law degree from Yale.
