Antonio Gomes, PhD

Principal Scientist at Xbiome

Antonio Gomes, PhD has worked in the field of bioinformatics since 2005. Antonio began their career at Universidade de Brasília, where they earned their Master of Science in 2005. Antonio then went on to Boston University, where they completed their PhD Candidate role in 2008. In 2013, they worked as a Post Doctoral Scientist at Boston University. Antonio then moved to Columbia University Medical Center in 2014, where they worked as a Postdoctoral Scientist and developed tools for quality proof of NGS data, bioinformatics and statistical methods to analyze regulatory compatibility among microbial communities, and identified and quantitatively modeled the sequence elements that are responsible for activation of horizontally acquired genes. In 2017, Antonio moved to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center as a Computational Biologist Sr., where they were responsible for analysis of microbial communities and their impact in graft versus host disease (GVHD) as well as analysis of human and microbial genomic data involved in GVHD. Antonio also developed mathematical and statistical models as well as bioinformatics tools. Most recently, Antonio is a Principal Scientist at Xbiome.

Antonio Gomes received their Bachelor's degree in Biological Science from Universidade de Brasília in 2004. Antonio then went on to earn their Master of Science in Biophysics from the same university in 2007. Finally, Gomes completed their Doctor of Philosophy in Bioinformatics from Boston University in 2013.
