Mike Johnson has a diverse work experience spanning several industries. Mike started their career in the US Army, serving as a Civil Affairs Non-Commissioned Officer and later as an Assistant to the Battalion Commander in the 2nd Ranger Battalion. During this time, they were recognized with multiple awards for their leadership and training initiatives.
After leaving the military, Mike Johnson took on various roles in the nonprofit sector. Mike served as the Chairman of the Board for Plateau Outreach Ministries, a local Christian social-service organization. Mike also worked as an Executive Pastor at Church By The Side Of The Road, where they managed church systems and programs, chaired board meetings, and engaged in community outreach work.
Mike Johnson then transitioned to working in the field of homelessness. Mike held the positions of Special Projects Director and Men's Shelter Director at Seattle's Union Gospel Mission, where they introduced innovative programming and helped transform the organization into a national leader in homelessness services. Mike also served as the Executive Director of The Rescue Mission, leading the mission through financial and organizational challenges and promoting stability and growth.
In 2010, Mike Johnson founded Climbing Out Of Homelessness, an organization that aims to change perceptions about homeless people through alpine mountaineering. Their work with this organization received significant media coverage and recognition.
Most recently, Mike Johnson served as the Assistant Executive Director at Yakima Union Gospel Mission. Overall, they have demonstrated expertise in leadership, nonprofit management, and addressing homelessness issues.
Mike Johnson has a Master of Science degree in Ministry from Pepperdine University, which they obtained from 1995 to 1997. Prior to that, they earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Bible/Missions from Abilene Christian University, where they studied from 1991 to 1995. Additionally, Mike has obtained a certification as an Instructor in Mental Health First Aid from the National Council for Behavioral Health.
