Founding Team

About

The Ginkgo Bioworks team is composed of individuals with experience in both the academic and industry spheres. The founders met while working on their degrees at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of Utah. Their shared love of biology and engineering led them to start OpenWetWare, a nonprofit organization that hosts information for the synthetic biology community, which they ran while also working as Graduate Research Assistants. After several years, they decided to commercialize their knowledge and founded Ginkgo Bioworks in 2008.
