Google VP joins Gusto as Chief People Officer

Gusto has announced that Danielle Brown, Google's former VP of employee engagement, will join the company as Chief People Officer. The appointment comes on the heels of Gusto adding more than 800 employees since 2012, with plans to hire hundreds more in the coming years.

In a statement, Gusto's Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer Josh Reeves said: “Danielle is a radically candid thought partner and leader who has consistently built world-renowned cultures where people are empowered to do their best work. She has dedicated her career to creating workplaces where people can thrive and belong, and I’m excited to work with her as we scale Gusto in the coming years.”

Brown most recently led employee relations, people operations governance and compliance and diversity, equity and inclusion strategy and programs at Google as vice president, employee engagement. She also served as Google’s chief diversity and inclusion officer. At Gusto, Brown will lead talent acquisition, talent development, employee experience, diversity and belonging, people operations and workplace environment initiatives at Gusto. She will also work to reinvent HR as an advocate for Gusto’s more than 60,000 small and medium-sized business customers across the U.S.

Brown will have 6 reports including Maryanne Caughey who will help lead the people team with a focus on talent acquisition, talent development and people operations. See Gusto's updated org chart here.
