The Org raises $100k to make organizations more transparent
The Org (https://theorg.com) has raised an angel round from Martin Hauge and Christian Birk to help people find the most relevant person to contact at a company. The Org crowdsources organizational charts (“org charts”) and makes them publicly available to let people see who works at a company and how the company is structured. So far, 900 companies are available on the platform growing more than 40% per month. Martin Hauge was previously General Partner at Creandum (investor in Spotify, iZettle, and Vivino) and Christian Birk was CEO & co-Founder of Endomondo, which was sold to Under Armour for $85 million in 2015.
Finding the right person to contact is hard because organizations are not transparent and job titles are often misleading. This leads to a lot of irrelevant requests via LinkedIn and sales people use thousands of dollars per year on sales enablement tools. Org charts create transparency to decision making processes and makes it easier to find the most relevant person to contact. Users can click through organizations to find executives and team members including who reports to whom.
“At Endomondo, we spent a lot of time and money trying to find the right people to contact at other companies. I wanted to support The Org’s mission to make organizations more transparent and make it easier to communicate between companies,” said Christian Birk.
The Org maintains its database of organizations through a combination of crowdsourcing, research, and machine learning. 30% of companies are created by users who want to create transparency to their own organization. Companies want to show off their team to attract new talent and be discovered for relevant investment and partnership opportunities. Users can join their own company and place themselves in the organization. The goal is to create a “LinkedIn for companies” where it is easy to communicate between companies.
“We invested in The Org because of their impressive early traction and the experienced founding team with a big long-term vision,” said Martin Hauge.
The Org was founded in November 2017 by Christian Wylonis (CEO) and Andreas Jarbøl (CTO) who previously co-founded Fitbay, which raised over $2 million from Jesper Buch, Creandum, and other high-profile investors. Christian Wylonis has a background from McKinsey, Creandum, and was most recently Chief Operating Officer at Vivino. Andreas Jarbøl was previously Tech Lead at Rainmaking Venture Studio. The Org is headquartered in San Francisco, California but both founders are originally from Copenhagen, Denmark.
