Joe Mcgill

Joe McGill has over a decade of professional experience as a software developer, building large-scale applications and websites primarily using WordPress. Throughout his career, he has worked on projects for organizations in many sectors, including higher education, non-profit/social service, publishing, news/media, financial institutions, and technology.

Joe is a WordPress Core Developer, who began contributing to the WordPress software project in 2014, where he has focused primarily on performance improvements for images. He helped lead the effort to include responsive images in WP Core in version 4.4, and improved image compression in WP version 4.5, which resulted in him becoming a core committer in May of 2016. He’s spoken at events like WordCamp Europe and WordCamp US and has had technical articles featured in publications including CSS Tricks.

Prior to joining 10up, Joe worked as the Director of WordPress Software Development at Alley Interactive, an Engineering Manager and Senior Software Engineer at Human Made, and the Director of Engineering for Public Affairs at Washington University in St. Louis.
