Lea Alcantara

Visual Design Director at 10up

Color, type, and code has always been Lea’s obsession, ever since she cobbled together a Sailor Moon fan site on Geocities as a teen. From 2003 onward, people decided to pay her for the privilege, launching her career.

Before 10up, Lea founded two agencies — one in Canada and co-founded one in the US! — that provided design direction and end-to-end digital experiences to an international client roster. While it’s cool to see her work featured on PBS and the New York Times, she’s most proud when she helps people connect the dots between their goals and the web.

Lea is passionate about sharing knowledge. Her learning-driven experience involve working with national science camps to post-secondary institutions. She’s written for .net Magazine and A List Apart, to name a few, and also taught Interface Design at her college alma mater.

A prolific industry speaker, she’s logged over 30 speaking engagements since 2007. HOW Design Live, Future of Web Design NYC, and SXSW Interactive are some of the stages she’s been fortunate to grace. For 8+ years, she also co-hosted the acclaimed web show CTRL+CLICK CAST. Episodes featured Fortune 500 design and development leaders as well as independents. Besides talking shop, the show championed diverse guests and real talk amongst industry peers.
