James Shell has over 25 years of experience in the US Navy. James began their career in 1997 as a Naval Flight Officer. In 2000, they were a Junior Officer at VAQ-134, where they held various positions such as Assistant Operations Officer, Training Officer, and Aircraft Division Officer. In 2003, they were a Prowler Tactics Instructor (augment) at the Electronic Attack Weapons School and a EA-6B pilot and flight officer Instructor at VAQ-129. James then moved to VAQ-137 in 2005 as a Tactics Officer and Assistant Operations Officer. From 2008 to 2011, they were the Department Head at VAQ-139, where they were responsible for the operations, employment, and readiness of 8 squadrons, over 1700 personnel, and 70 aircraft of various types. James was then the Deputy Strike Department Head, Electronic Warfare Branch Head, and JOINT programs Branch Head at the Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center from 2011 to 2013. In 2013, they were the Operations Officer at Carrier Air Wing 2, responsible for leading the planning for multiple air wing training events. In 2018, they became the Chief Staff Officer (N01A) (Chief of Staff) at the Electronic Attack Wing, U.S. Pacific Fleet, acting as a senior adviser to the EA-18G Wing Commander. James is currently a Warfare Analyst at 2 Circle Consulting, Inc.

James Shell attended Weber State University from 1991 to 1996, where they earned a Bachelor's Degree in Zoology/Animal Biology with a minor in Chemistry.
