Chao Chen

Chao Chen is a highly motivated scientist specializing in solid mechanics and fracture mechanics of soft materials. They have expertise in finite element modeling to analyze material deformation and failure, having served as a PhD Research Assistant at Harvard University from 2011 to 2017. With postdoctoral experience at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and Syracuse University, they furthered their research focus on soft and stretchable materials. Currently, Chao is a Senior Mechanical Research Scientist at 3M, where they develop mechanical models for adhesive materials. They hold a PhD in Fracture Mechanics on Soft Materials from Harvard University, as well as a Master of Engineering in Nano Mechanics and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanics, both from Tsinghua University.
