3SUN is the largest Italian Photovoltaic Factory, intended to compete with the most important European and worldwide companies in this sector. An Industrial Project born from the joint venture agreement between Enel Green Power (ENEL Group Company, dedicated to the development and management of activities related to renewable energy at an international level), Sharp Corporation (Japanese giant pioneering in photovoltaic, creator of the unique triple-junction thin film technology) and STMicroelectronics (pioneering company in microelectronics, owner of the Industrial Site where the Company is located), who combined their outstanding technical skills gained from experiences of absolute excellence in their respective sectors. A new and important challenge in the renewable energy sector, with significant implications for employment in Sicily. Multi-junction thin film photovoltaic panels will be produced in the innovative Plant, located in Catania Industrial Area, with an initial production capacity in 2011 equal to 160 MW/year and intended to increase in the coming years. 3SUN will produce multi-junction, thin-film photovoltaic cells and modules.
