Ann Thorn has over 30 years of work experience in the medical device industry. Ann started their career in 1982 as a Summer Graduate Intern at Hewlett Packard's McMinnville branch. After that, they worked as a Research Intern at Brown Boveri Research Center, where they were responsible for designing an arbitration scheme for multiple multiprocessors accessing a common bus.
In 1984, they joined Hewlett Packard's Diagnostic Cardiology Division as an Electrical Engineer/Project Manager. Ann worked in this role for 11 years, during which they managed various projects and was involved in the design and development of power supplies for hospital defibrillators.
From 1992 to 1994, Ann worked as a Manufacturing Engineer at the Defibrillator Line, where they designed a manufacturing line for a hospital defibrillator and managed the product transfer to full production.
In 1994, they became a Project Manager at Hewlett Packard, where they led a team of engineers in integrating SpO2 technology into hospital defibrillators. Ann also served as a liaison between the US and German divisions to keep the project on schedule.
Ann then joined Heartstream, a start-up company, in 1995 as a Biomedical Engineer. During their time there, they contributed to the development of public access AED defibrillators and was involved in the testing, qualification, and verification of these devices.
In the same year, Ann also started working at Philips Healthcare as an Electrical Design Engineer. Ann worked on the design and development of the HeartStart AED defibrillator and its accessories. Ann collaborated with cross-functional teams to ensure regulatory compliance and improved manufacturing processes.
In 2008, Ann transitioned to the role of Hardware Project Engineer at Philips Healthcare. In this position, they oversaw project timelines and benchmarks for the hardware team working on the next generation defibrillation products. Ann also integrated software and hardware testing to ensure system quality and integrity.
In 2011, Ann took on the role of Hardware Systems Engineer at Philips Healthcare, where they were responsible for system validation and verification activities for a defibrillator project. Ann also played a key role in safety risk management and process revision.
Since 2019, Ann has been working at 98point6 Inc. In their current role as a Senior Technical Program Manager and Director of Engineering (since 2022), they oversee engineering teams and project management activities.
Throughout their career, Ann has demonstrated expertise in medical device development, project management, regulatory compliance, and quality assurance.
Ann Thorn completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Ohio State University, where they studied from 1977 to 1981. Following this, they pursued a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering at Washington State University from 1981 to 1984.
