Tom Shimp has a diverse work experience in the field of IT management and security. Tom started their career at Standard Register in 2000, where they served as an IT Manager, focusing on security administration. During their time there, they played a key role in enhancing access controls and security practices and ensuring compliance with various legislation and regulations. Tom also obtained the GSEC certification.
In 2007, Tom joined Emerson Commercial & Residential Solutions, where they held multiple roles. As the Group Information Security Officer, they led the information security program for over 70 sites globally, developing security strategies and achieving ISO 27001 certification for the organization. Tom implemented and maintained various security measures such as web content filtering, patch management, and Symantec implementation.
At Emerson, Tom also served as an IT Manager for Infrastructure, where they managed the network and infrastructure aspects of The Helix innovation center. Tom successfully implemented a cost-saving CISCO telephony system and continued to lead the support team.
In 2018, Tom took on the role of IT Manager-Global Continual Service Improvement at Emerson. Tom was responsible for leading an enterprise-wide Continual Service Improvement program, identifying and implementing performance improvements and cost savings across multiple business units. Tom exceeded initial goals by successfully managing numerous opportunities for process improvement.
Most recently, Tom joined A. O. Smith Corporation in 2022 as the Global Service Desk Operations Lead.
Tom Shimp has a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Leadership from Wright State University, which they obtained from 2004 to 2006. Tom also has a Certificate of Management from Wright State University, which they obtained in 1990. In addition, they hold an Associate's Degree in Data Processing from Wright State University. Tom Shimp has obtained various certifications throughout their career, including ServiceNow CSA, ITIL Continual Service Improvement (ITIL-CSI) training, ITIL Foundation Level 3 Certification, Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), QualysGuard Certified Specialist, and GIAC Security Essentials Certification (GSEC).
