On the 12th of June 2021, the Sant’Elena group had been created by three foreign students that were preparing for a university tournament. The first name of the group was “Back to football” and it was in many ways and comeback to origins. First of all, we have to put into context this date. In June 2021, Italy had just undergone its peak in Covid-19 cases and that summer was the occasion for many students to come back to an active social life. Since many of the other sport associations in Venice didn’t start right away after covid, there was an active demand for playing football in the city.

As most Venetian players had long abandoned the Sant’Elena pitch for its rugged look for better maintained private pitches, this group found an opportunity to make out the best of the only public football pitch in Venice.

The Sant’Elena area, in the most eastern side of Venice, had always been strictly linked to sports and specifically to football.

However, the first members fo the group weren’t from Venice, some were germans, others from Mozambique or Egypt and some even from Ecuador. This meant that this association was, and is to this day, based on internationality and inclusivity. Seeing that there was a strong base for something more than just a whatsapp group of more than 360 members, three other friends decided to found a proper sport association: l’Associazione Sportiva Dilettantistica Sant’Elena. This meant that new and bigger projects could be carried out: charity matches other than typical games, fully polished tournaments involving more than 40 players with kits and trophies, and the latest and biggest project yet: the “SNT’LN LEAGUE”. A proper league with 10 teams made up of 12 players each with a personalized kit and a different sponsor that meet every two weeks for 5v5 games accompanied with a dj set. The goal of this project is to create a fix sport event for young people in Venice. Associazione Sportiva Sant’Elena wants to promote inclusion through sport.
