James Markwiese is a seasoned environmental scientist with extensive experience in ecology and quality assurance. Currently serving as Chief of the Ecology Effects Branch at the US Environmental Protection Agency since February 2015, Dr. Markwiese leads a diverse research team focused on mine site reclamation, plant toxicity, wildlife modeling, and the impacts of environmental factors on ecosystems. Additionally, Dr. Markwiese holds several positions at Oregon State University, including serving on the NIH Institutional Biosafety Committee and as Affiliate Faculty in the Environmental & Molecular Toxicology Department, fostering collaborations and mentoring students. With a solid background that includes roles as a senior biologist at Environmental Standards, Inc. and as an environmental biologist at Neptune and Company, Dr. Markwiese contributes to the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation as an ISO 17025 Accreditation Council Member. Dr. Markwiese earned a PhD in Zoology and Physiology from the University of Wyoming and holds multiple degrees in biology and environmental sciences.
