Ed Bonapfel has a diverse work experience that spans across various industries. Ed began their career as an intern at John Linder, United States House of Representatives, in 2002. From 2003 to 2006, they served as a Legislative Assistant at Lindsey O. Graham, United States Senate, where they provided advice on telecommunications, healthcare, transportation, judiciary, and other legislative matters.
In 2007 and 2008, Ed worked as a Summer Associate at Nelson Mullins and Alston & Bird LLP, respectively. At Alston & Bird LLP, they later became a Senior Associate in 2010. There, they handled complex commercial litigation cases and represented clients ranging from individuals to Fortune 100 companies.
In 2017, Ed transitioned to The Aaron's Company, Inc., where they have held various roles. Ed started as the Lead Counsel for Privacy, Compliance, & Operations and eventually became the Senior Counsel in the same department. From 2021 to 2023, Ed served as the Assistant General Counsel and Vice President of Compliance. Currently, they hold the position of Deputy General Counsel & Vice President of Compliance at The Aaron's Company, Inc.
Ed Bonapfel received a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in History from Davidson College, where they attended from 1998 to 2002. Ed later pursued a Doctor of Law (J.D.) degree from Mercer University, completing their studies between 2006 and 2009. In 2018, they obtained a Certified Information Privacy Professional/United States (CIPP/US) certification from the IAPP - International Association of Privacy Professionals.
