Markus Dr. Häupl has a diverse work experience. Markus is currently the Co-Founder & COO of abaut GmbH since April 2018. Prior to this, they worked as a Lecturer at the University of Leoben, where they taught a Master's course on "Rohstoffgewinnung über Tage" since February 2012. Markus also served as a Business process manager and later as a Product manager for ERP-Systems at STRABAG SE from October 2009 to March 2018. Additionally, they worked as a Lecturer at both Montanuniversität Leoben and Sandvik Mining and Construction. Earlier in their career, they held various roles at Mineral Abbau GmbH, including Area Manager, Gruppenleiter, and Leitender Techniker for Rohstoffproduktionsbetriebe. Markus also briefly worked as the Betriebsleiterassistenz at Ilbau GmbH.

Markus Dr. Häupl's education history includes several academic experiences in the field of mining and engineering. Markus earned a Diplom-Ingenieur degree in Bergwesen, Bergbau und Tunnelbau from Montanuniversität Leoben, where they studied from 1994 to 2000. Later, they pursued a postgraduate program at Camborne School of Mines in 2009, focusing on Projektmanagement, Finanzierung und Ertragsabschätzung. In the same year, they also attended Mines Paris for a project related to evaluating the economic aspects of a mining project. Additionally, Markus completed a program on surface and underground mine design at Colorado School of Mines in 1997. Lastly, they obtained a Dr.mont. degree in Bergwirtschaft und Bergbaukunde from Montanuniversität Leoben after studying there from 2008 to 2011.
