James Cunningham

James Cunningham is an accomplished pharmaceutical professional with extensive experience in drug delivery and formulation development. Currently serving as Executive Director at AbbVie since May 2020, James previously held the position of Executive Director for Drug Delivery at Allergan from May 2014 to May 2020. At Allergan, responsibilities included overseeing early pharmaceutical development across various modalities and therapeutic areas, as well as driving innovation in delivery technology. Prior to Allergan, James worked at Merck & Co., Inc. from 2004 to May 2014 as Senior Principal Scientist in Pharmaceutical Sciences, leading projects across multiple modalities and enhancing formulation technology capabilities. Earlier, James worked as a Scientist at Elan Drug Delivery from 2002 to 2004, where development of formulations for poorly water-soluble drugs and research into targeting capabilities were key achievements. James holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Michigan and a BS in Chemical Engineering from Cornell University.
