Joon Sung is currently the Advocacy Director at Advocates for Basic Legal Equality, Inc, a role they have held since 2025. Prior to this, Joon served as the Systemic Advocacy Director at Lakeshore Legal Aid from 2020 to 2025, during which time they also held the position of Chief Litigation Officer from 2016 to 2020. Joon's earlier experience includes working as the Deputy Chief Counsel at the Legal Aid and Defender Association and as the Director of Litigation at Legal Aid and Defender from 2014 to 2015. Additionally, Joon was an Assistant Professor of Law at the University of Detroit Mercy from 2007 to 2014. Joon earned a Juris Doctor from Boston College Law School and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Michigan.
