Xiao is the president of Feng Xiao Architect, Inc., a firm that specializes in urban design and the design of residential and mixed-use projects.
Xiao founded the firm and has expertise in master planning, entitlement, design, and documentation of residential, transit-oriented, and mixed-use projects across a wide range of size, scale, and typology in the United States and abroad.
Xiao serves on the Board of Directors for Abode Communities, a nonprofit organization that builds sustainable, multi-family affordable housing in Southern California.
From 1999 to 2014, Xiao was a principal and head of architecture at Torti Gallas and Partners, Inc., overseeing architectural projects located in the Western United States.
Xiao held a Master of Landscape Architecture, Urban Design and Landscape Architecture from Virginia Polytechnic Insitute and State University (1997–1999) and a Bachelor of Architecture (BArch) from Tianjin University (1990–1995).
